My Part-Time Job

I think that it is important for us to communicate with people who exist around us. During this summer vacation, I worked at a place where adults or volunteers take care of primary schoolchildren because their parents aren’t in their house when the children come back home from school. Recently, double-income parents have increased in order to earn more money for their living because of the recession. Their parents worry about leaving children alone in their house. That’s why they entrust their children to adults’ care. I felt that family and volunteers in the region are very important through my part-time job.

Firstly, I understood the needs of parents. I worried about this job when I had started it because children are so free that I couldn’t bring them together and they had sharp little tongues. However when I became used to working at this job, I thought that they made up to me because they felt lonely. As for me, there is always my mother in my house, so I hardly feel lonely, but the children who came to my job can’t meet their parents in the daytime, so they always feel more loneliness than me. I felt it important for them to be their parents beside them when they talked about their parents or family, and their parents came for them even if children are very reliable. I should think over once more about importance of parents’ existence through the children.

Secondly, it is essential to support people who are volunteers or neighbors. While I spent time with them, I experienced handicrafts and a game called “suikawari” in Japanese by the volunteers. Children were very excited during this. These experiences are rare nowadays, so they had a very good time owing to volunteers. In fact, there are many things which volunteers and neighbors support around us every day without us noticing. For example, they pick up the garbage, pass on traditions and so on, but most of us don’t understand this situation. I want everyone to notice this situation, and communicate more with them.

Most importantly, everybody needs to have love for someone. I felt it most while I worked at this place. Particularly, I thought it when I worked for the first time. When I started to work, I didn’t know that I would come in contact with children. I couldn’t get used to smiling at them. They also didn’t smile at me so much because I didn’t smile. I gradually understood how to develop better rapport, I could express something in my mind and come in contact with love. I had a discovery about a volunteer. In the case of volunteers, they always looked at children’s eyes and communicated with children as hard as they could. I noticed that children don’t respond unless we have love. It is not only true of children, but also is true of adults.

I didn’t only teach to children, but I also learned many important things from children. They gave me a chance that I should look over existence around me again. Maybe we usually spend our life without becoming aware of someone’s love or needs because this condition is too natural to notice the needs of people. I want more people to pay attention around them, and I should feel grateful for family or volunteers. If we must have an opportunity which they support someone, we should say more “Thank you” and give them love! I think it good that these opportunities increase more from now on. If I hadn’t worked at this job, I wouldn’t have felt it. I spent a good time and experienced a good work.
